Degrees available in Biology:
The biology department at VMI provides a focused education in the biological sciences. We prepare students for post-graduate education in the biological and health fields and allow for specialization that matches their interests and career plans. Faculty believe interaction in the classroom, laboratory, and on an individual basis is critical in the development of successful biology majors. Class sizes are small, laboratories accompany most courses, advising is conducted on an individual basis, and undergraduate research is encouraged.
Since 1994
- 35% of our majors entered post-graduate degree programs
- 24% entered health professions
- 16% have enrolled in M.S. or Ph.D. programs.
- 30% accepted a commission in the military
- two have volunteered for the Peace Corps
Our graduates are highly successful in competing for health profession scholarships from the armed services for medical and dental schooling or for graduate teaching or research assistantships and fellowships.
