AR verbs with spelling changes

There are various ways in Spanish to express an action in the past. This exercise treats the simple past, or PRETERIT, which means that a verb is a one-word verb, already completed, which took place only once. For example, "I speak" is the present tense. "I spoke" is the past tense.

Formation: To conjugate regular AR verbs in the past drop the AR from the infinitive and you are left with HABL. Add the following endings to the stem: é, aste, ó, amos, astéis, and aron. For example, HABLAR in the preterit conjugates as follows:

Hablé-I spoke
Hablaste-You spoke
Habló-He,she, you (formal) spoke

Hablamos-We spoke
Hablastéis-You all spoke
Hablaron-They spoke

However, there are a few verbs that have adaptations in the YO for pronunciation reasons, specifically AR verbs which end in CAR, ZAR or GAR.

CAR verbs such as BUSCAR have a QUE in the yo: Busqué= I searched.
GAR verbs such as LLEGAR have a GUE in the yo: Llegué=I arrived.
ZAR verbs such as ALMORZAR have a CE in the yo: Almorcé= I ate lunch.

Other than this spelling change in the YO, the verbs is treated like all regular AR verbs. Typical verbs of these types are:

Almorzar, Comenzar, Empezar, abrazar, alcanzar
Jugar, llegar, pagar
Buscar, tocar, sacar, pescar

In the exercise that follows, conjugate the AR verbs in the past tense for the subjects provided.
