Placement choice with reflexive pronouns Occasionally students get the urge to move around the reflexive pronouns. There are a few simple rules to follow. As the previous exercises have shown, if you have a single-word conjugation or a perfect tense then you place the pronoun in FRONT. You do NOT have a choice here. However, when you have certain two or three-word constructions then you may place the pronoun at the beginning or at the end. You may NOT split the construction. Examples that fit into these categories are the present progressive and certain infinitive constructions such as ir + a + infnitive; tener + que+ infinitive; acabar + de + infinitive. Examples: Están casándose = Se están casando Tengo que banarme = Me tengo que banar In the exercise, match the two equivalents. Notice where the pronouns are located. |
