| B.S. Requirements | The department offers two programs in Mathematics that lead to
a degree. One stresses the humanitites and leads to the Bachelor of Arts degree, B.A. in Mathematics; the other stresses the sciences and leads to the Bachelor of Science degree, B.S. in Mathematics. The purposes of the major in Mathematics are: 1. To prepare the cadet for positions in business, industry and government service; for teaching; for graduate study; for entering professional schools such as law, medicine, business administration, or engineering. 2. To promote understanding in several basic fields of mathematics so that the cadet: becomes familiar with their structures and major concepts; acquires proficiency in their techniques; develops an appreciation and an understanding of the nature of mathematics as an independent subject as well as one with extensive applications. |

| Minor Requirements | To become a candidate for the minor, the cadet must obtain the approval of both the head of the Mathematics and Computer Science department and the head of the department in the major field |
